This is the page that matters most, so it goes first and in plain English.

You did not have to ask to be listed

Crockett Local lists businesses in Crockett County whether or not they asked to be here. Listings are free and always will be. We do it that way so that a neighbour looking for somebody to work on a lawnmower can actually find one — which only works if everybody is in here.

Where the information comes from

Every listing carries a note about how confident we are in it. The information comes from a small number of public places:

• Business listings already published publicly around the county
• Tennessee business registration records
• Businesses’ own websites and public pages
• Public posts in local community groups
• Phone calls we have made ourselves

Where we have spoken to the business, the page says so and gives the date. Where we have not, the page says the details came from public records and have not been confirmed. We would rather admit what we do not know than present a guess as a fact.

Hours and details may be wrong

Businesses change their hours, move, and close. We re-check listings on a regular cycle, but between checks a detail here can be out of date. Call ahead before you drive. Crockett Local is not responsible for a wasted trip, and nothing here is a guarantee that a business is open, still trading, or able to do the work you need.

Fixing something

If a listing is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. There is no form to fill in and no account to create — email hello@crockettlocal.com and we will correct it, normally the same day. Corrections from the owner are always taken at face value.

Coming off the directory

If you own or manage a business here and you do not want to be listed, say so and we will remove the listing. You do not have to give a reason and we will not ask for one, argue, or try to talk you out of it. Email hello@crockettlocal.com from any address, or call us. Removals are done within two business days.

Removal is permanent unless you ask us to put it back. We keep a short record of the request so an automated import does not quietly re-add you later.

No reviews, no ratings

Crockett Local does not host reviews, star ratings, or public comments about businesses, and there are no plans to add them. In a county this size, an anonymous complaint can do real damage to a family, and we are not willing to be the place that happens.

Churches

Churches are listed like everybody else, free, and every church in Crockett County is welcome on identical terms.

A church listing carries the same kind of thing a business listing does — facts you can act on. Where it is, the phone number, service times, a link to its own page, and anything open to the wider public: a food pantry, a thrift store, a daycare, AA meetings, a cemetery, a hall you can hire. Where a church tells us its affiliation — Baptist, Methodist, Church of Christ, non-denominational — we list it as a plain fact, so you can decide for yourself where you fit.

What a listing does not carry is a statement of faith, a comparison with another church, an invitation to attend, or a position on a social or political question. That is not a judgement about churches; it is the rule every listing here gets. A plumber cannot say he is the only honest plumber in the county either. A listing says what something is and when you can go — not why you should choose it.

We do not decide which churches count, and we will not be asked to. A directory that sorted congregations by whether it approved of them would be no use to a county where people worship in different places and still have to live next door to each other.

Paid placement

Free listings are never ranked lower for being free, and paying does not buy a better description or a hidden advantage. If a listing is promoted, it will be visibly labelled as such. If that ever stops being true, this paragraph will change first.

What money can and cannot buy

Two things here are paid for, and both are named before you find them.

Trade-area listings. A business outside Crockett County can pay to appear when somebody here searches for something the county has no answer of its own for. Those listings carry a paid label and say which town the business is in. They never appear on a Crockett County town page, they never mix in with the county’s own businesses, and they never displace one.

Booking buttons. A Crockett County business can pay to add a Book now button to its listing, which takes you to that business’s own booking page. It is a feature the business chose to add, like a website link or a photograph. It does not move them up any list, and a listing without one is never shown lower for the lack of it.

That is the whole of it. Paying does not buy a better position, a better description, a higher place in search, or a quiet advantage of any kind. Every free listing for a Crockett County business stays free, and stays free permanently. If any of that ever stops being true, this section changes before the site does.

What goes on This Week

This Week carries things that are already public and already have a date: ballgames, council and commission meetings, school events, business openings, fundraisers, yard sales, road closings and festivals.

The format is the rule. What it is, when it is, where it is, and a link to the organiser’s own page if there is one. Nothing else. No description of why, no comment on it, no opinion about it.

Four things never go up:

• Campaigns. Nothing connected to a political campaign. In a county where people are on different sides, a site with no opinions can serve everybody.
• Advertising. A sale, a discount or a promotion is not an event. What a business sells belongs on its listing, where every business gets the same treatment free.
• Obituaries. We do not publish them. The county’s funeral homes are listed in the directory and their own pages carry them.
• Anything that needs a reporter. If it requires asking why, or who is at fault, it belongs in the Crockett Times, and we will happily link to them.

Churches. A church’s own listing carries its services, times and contacts. This Week is not a weekly service schedule; it carries one-off community events.

Send it at least 48 hours ahead. Everything is read by a person before it goes up, and something arriving the morning of an event is one nobody will read in time.

Where we do and do not take sides

Crockett Local helps people find local businesses and know what is on. That is the whole of it. We take no side on anything — except that a local business should be easy to find, and a public event should be easy to know about.
