Written to describe what this site actually does today, not what a template assumes it might do.

What we collect from visitors

Crockett Local has no accounts, no login, no newsletter signup, and no advertising trackers. We do not set cookies. There is no Google Analytics here, no Meta Pixel, and nothing that follows you to other websites. You can browse every page without telling us who you are.

We do count things, and we would rather say exactly what:

• How many people visited, and which pages they looked at
• What was searched for, and whether we had an answer
• Which listings people tapped Call, Directions or Website on

That is done with Vercel Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not build a profile of anyone. We see that a page was viewed or a number was tapped — never who did it. Two visits from the same person look the same to us as visits from two different people.

Why we bother: so a business here can be told something useful, like “your listing was viewed 214 times last month and 37 people tapped your phone number.” A directory that cannot show a business it is working for them is just a list.

Our host keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for a limited period for security and troubleshooting. We do not use those logs to build a profile of anyone.

If you email us

Emailing hello@crockettlocal.com — to suggest a business, correct a listing, or ask for removal — means we have your email address and whatever you chose to write. We use it to deal with your message and to keep a record of corrections and removal requests so they are not undone later. We do not sell it, rent it, or add you to a mailing list.

If you claim a listing

The claim form asks for your name, optionally your role, and a phone number or an email address so we can reach you. You can also leave a note about what needs fixing.

What happens to it:

• It is stored in our own database, which is what runs this directory, and in the customer records system we use to keep track of who we still owe a call back to.
• We use it to confirm you are actually with the business, and then to get your hours, services, photos and description right.
• We do not sell it, rent it, or pass it to anyone else, and claiming a listing does not sign you up to anything.

Texting is opt-in and separate. There is a tick box on the form giving us permission to text you about your listing. It is off unless you tick it, leaving it off does not hold anything up, and you can reply STOP at any time to stop them for good. If you tick it we may send occasional reminders about keeping your listing current — nothing else, and never an advert from someone else.

Change your mind? Email us and we will delete what we hold and remove you from any reminders.

Business information on the site

Listings contain business contact details — a trading name, business address, business phone number — not personal information about private individuals. Where a business is run from a home, we list only what the owner has already published publicly, and we remove any listing on request. See the listing policy.

Children

This is a business directory. It is not directed at children and we knowingly collect nothing from them.

What is still to come

We intend to add a “request a quote” button, so you can ask a business for a price without picking up the phone. When that happens, what you type will be sent to that business, and this page will say so before the button appears.

An earlier version of this page said the claim form was still to come, and that we would update this page before it went live. We got that the wrong way round — the form went live first and this page was updated afterwards. It is accurate now, and we are noting it here rather than quietly editing it.

Asking what we hold

Email us and ask. If we hold anything of yours, we will tell you what it is and delete it if you want us to.
